Long and short-term fellowships are available to assist in the training of scientists from Member States through the following actions:
International PhD Programme
ICGEB offers postgraduate studies with the aim of obtaining the "Doctor Philosophiae" (PhD) degree in molecular genetics and life sciences. The degree can be awarded by a number of validating entities of national and international level such as the Open University (UK); the "Scuola Normale Superiore", Pisa (Italy), the University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi (India).
Postdoctoral Fellowships
Scientists may apply for a postdoctoral fellowship to be carried out at one of the Components. Successful candidates may be eligible for follow-up funding for their research upon their return to the home institute through the Return Grant Programme.
Flexible Fellowships
Short-term fellowships to be awarded for ongoing collaborative research between scientists from ICGEB Member States and the research groups at the ICGEB Laboratories in Trieste and New Delhi. The "Sandwich" PhD Programme is open to PhD registered students wishing to carry out part of their experimental studies at the ICGEB Laboratories in the framework of an agreed collaboration.
- All applicants must have made prior contact with the Group Leader of their choice at the ICGEB laboratories in Italy and India, as listed, and obtained prior agreement on their proposed research project.

- Written statement endorsing the project and confirming availability of laboratory space from the chosen Group Leader;
- List of Publications;
- English Language Proficiency Certificate (such as TOEFL, Cambridge Certificate or equivalent); not applicable when scholastic education has been conducted in English;
- 3 Letters of Recommendation;
- Any additional information as specified in the individual Funding Programme.
Applications from nationals of ICGEB Member States only must be sent to the ICGEB Liaison Officer in the applicant's country of origin. Italian nationals should send the complete application directly to ICGEB Trieste.
