More than 70 organisations, including private companies and nationally and internationally renowned research institutes, have chosen to settle in the AREA Science Park to enhance their scientific and technological competitiveness. Alongside basic research in physics, material structures, genomics and biotechnology, there is an ever-broadening range of research aimed at applications in the chemical, pharmaceutical, automotive, food, electronics, space and ICT industries, and qualified services – such as consultancies and assistance concerning technology transfer, management of innovation, security and quality, the environment and advanced training – are fully working.
In the strategies of the Consorzio per l’AREA di ricerca scientifica e tecnologica di Trieste, the managing body of the Science Park, a central role is played by its relations with the city and province of Trieste and its region. In the coming years its greatest efforts will be devoted to promote and enhance the research and knowledge produced by scientific and academic institutions in Friuli- Venezia Giulia, responding to companies’ needs for innovation and to set up new technological research centres in the region and an innovation support network.

Employing 1,600 people, boasting on experience of over fifteen years and enjoying uninterrupted growth since its foundation, the AREA qualifies as the institutional technological leader in Italy.
