The Interdisciplinary Laboratory is a SISSA department established in 1989 to experiment new links between science and humanities related to pedagogical lines to be activated at SISSA. The activities of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory are focused on different aspect of science and society issues. The main educational activity is the Master in Science Communication, which runs regularly since 1993.

The Laboratory organizes four activities:
