As event of great cultural interest and importance. The twenty-fourth edition of Trieste Antiqua, the international market exhibition that takes place .

Trieste Antiqua will once again to consolidate a specific role of the market exhibition in the context of the antiques market of Central Europe.

Moreover, after more than two years of bureaucratic and administrative wrangling, has managed to arrange the participation of two exhibitors hailing from Belgrade. This collective exhibit will attempt to create a meeting point for the introduction and comparison of two distinct cultures: that of southern Serbia with its historic Ottoman inheritance and conversely, the culture of northern Serbia (Vojvodina) where its strong Austro Hungarian influences can still be felt today. This is an absolute first, as the antiquities of Serbia have never before been granted permission to be showcased outside of its territory until now.

To testify to the expository and promotional nature of the manifestation, during the initial planning stages of the 2006 edition, organizers decided to lengthen the duration of the exhibit with respect to previous editions from 5 days in 2005 to 9 days this year. The dates and numbers testify with absolute credibility the degree to which the organizers and market experts appreciate and enjoy Trieste Antiqua. In fact there are more than 50 antiquarians who did not want to miss this Trieste fair which over the years has become a highly requested one both from dealers and the public alike. TriesteAntiqua is alive: traditional but at the same time innovative and alluring.

Particularly impressive is the selection of pieces that will be on display as a preview to the exhibit.

The romantic world of transatlantic voyages will finally “return home”, in the natural channels of the Stazione Marittima, the luxurious flagships of the Italian Navigational Society will relive the epoch. It has been confirmed that amongst the various exhibitioners, period furnishings and house wares crafted by the suppliers of these historical ships will be on display.

Among the pieces will be small home furnishings and immense tables, objects in “German silver” and even trolleys and platters used to serve the roasts and braises during the rich, elegant dinners enjoyed by the ships’ passengers. As always the space reserved for the display of antique furniture will be ample.

Adjacent to the always appreciated furnishings of the Biedermeier period of various provenances, the 2006 edition of Trieste Antiqua will feature the presentation of the tea table “No. 20” attributed to Joseph Danhauser. In addition, on display will be precious icons of Russian origins, ancient paintings from 1500-1700, porcelain crafted by the imperial manufacturers of Vienna, ivory carvings and “royal” timepieces handcrafted in wood with gold inlays constructed in Austria at the beginning of the 19th century. All will be on display for all our impassioned guests.

However this is but a small sample of the extensive collections that will be on-hand for visitors to take in and merely helps reiterate the magnitude into which the event has evolved. A genuine “360º experience” for the senses, both for the exhibitors and visitors alike heightened by the suggestive location and that of the city of Trieste itself. In fact there has always been a close bond between Trieste Antiqua and the city of Trieste; a matrimony that revolves around an axle of antiques, culture, tourist promotion and hospitality. A marriage based, though not exclusively on, these common bonds.

Aside from these distinct characteristics, Trieste Antiqua does not forgo its social obligations and will act as host of the art exhibit “Collezionismo…che passione!”, an exposition organized by the Italian Cancer Research Association featuring pieces of exquisite artistic value and particular refinement. The event, curated by the Comitato AIRC – Friuli Venezia Giulia branch, will put particular focus on snuffboxes and other little travel and picnic necessities that make up this charming exhibit that will be on display for the entire durat
ion of TriesteAntiqua. As a further sign of solidarity, a portion of the proceeds generated from ticket sales will be donated to s upport cancer research.

THE PASSION OF COLLECTING

As it has become a tradition every year, the Trieste Antiqua exhibition will host a delightful side exhibition, which definitely will not fail to attract the interest of the many visitors expected for this XXIV edition of the Antiques Market Fair Exhibition.

During the exhibition, there will be the traditional appointment of the A.I.R.C., the Italian Association for Cancer Research (the Regional Committee of Friuli Venezia Giulia), which has been working for over 40 years towards the collection of donations and funds to be used in the fight against the scourge of the century.

The link between the exhibition and the local branch of the Association for Cancer Research is closer than ever, and is being renewed this year as well in order to offer the visitors a further attraction within this great autumn appointment with antiques and, above all, to combine antiques, tourism , charity and solidarity.

Considering such a noble cause, the managers have confirmed their intention to give part of the proceeds from the sale of the tickets to cancer research.

The A.I.R.C., for its part, will contribute to the success of the event presenting, for the whole length of the exhibition (from the 28th of October to the 5th of November), an exhibition inspired by “Private Collecting” centred around objects of very high level and exquisite artistic taste, creating a particularly refined attraction.

The event curated by the A.I.R.C., which will be hosted in the stand – provided by Promotrieste – positioned in the entrance hall, will be centred in particular on some snuff boxes and other small items for travel or picnics, which will be on display to be admired for the entire period TriesteAntiqua will be opened to the public.

So, what we have is an exhibition within the exhibition ; one which will certainly not fail to capture the interest of the numerous art lovers expected……….
